As 18-19 year old's entering the chaotic world of college also known as the ‘stepping stone to the real world’, teenagers probably think they know it all and are ready for whatever life throws at them. This idea is often clouded with the taste of freedom that is synonymous with the word college. However, as a 21 year old in the Final Year of college, I can confidently say, First Year students don’t know what they don’t know and that is where the problem begins.
There are a few tips/hacks, I wish I knew before starting college and would like to share the same with students to help them get through the roller-coaster ride.
1. It’s okay to be lost and confused
This one is extremely important as students feel heavily pressured to decide what they want to do with their life before beginning college. Unpopular opinion, but there is no compulsion to have it all figured out, nobody does. College will help you understand where you are in life and where you want to be 10 years down the line. If its any consolation, I was confused when I entered college and I’m still confused when I leave. We’re all in this together.

2. Sleep, Study and Social Life
It’s often said that students have to choose 2 between sleep, study and social life. No, you don’t need this kind of negativity in your life. Balance it out, Time Management is now your best friend. Eliminating even one of these from your life is almost like choosing and preparing for your downfall.

3. Confidence is everything
I cannot stress this enough, confidence puts you on the path to success. We are often in need of constant validation but source of approval is only an added bonus and nothing else. Your confidence, consciousness and pro-activeness will go a long way. Be confident and express what you believe in but at the same time be open to learning, accepting that not everyone will agree with your thoughts and learn to look at things from a perspective other than yours.

4. Small things make the biggest difference
In the constant running around and missed deadlines, do not forget to appreciate the small things which you will later realize mean so much more than a submission. Worked hard on a project and still got a C? That’s okay. Did you learn? That’s what matters. On some days, when college life got to me, a cup of coffee and a bowl of noodles, ironically from the college cafeteria would make me feel better. Find your comfort, take a breath. Make friends that will last a lifetime, make memories that’ll last even longer.

5. Curiosity
Stay curious, always. Ask questions, do not limit your knowledge to the classroom. Intrigued by a professor and the skill and knowledge he/she possess? Speak to them outside of class, learn everything you can. To be open minded and curios are two of the best qualities one can possess.

I am no expert but I know these 5 college hacks and tips helped me get through college and I hope it helps those of you who need it too. Everyone makes mistakes and learns, that is the point of college. Nobody ever said college teaches you just academics, it takes you above and beyond without you even realizing it. Have fun, Get some sleep!
